CA District Attorneys Against Early Release, Citing Public Safety Risk

District Attorneys in 41 California counties are challenging the early release of 76,000 state prison inmates.

Prosecutors say they include some of the state's most violent criminals. The prisoners are scheduled to have their sentences cut in half in some cases, because of new emergency regulations that allow them extra credits for time served. The 41 District Attorneys have filed a petition with Corrections officials requesting the immediate repeal of those new rules, which are just temporary at this point.

Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, a declared candidate for Attorney General, said releasing dangerous criminals would create a serious public safety risk.
