RV-Style Self-Quarantine Trailers For Homeless Now At Cal Expo

Dozens of trailers designed camping and travel are now going to be used to help homeless people and others self-quarantine. Two dozen RV-style trailers have arrived at the state fairgrounds-- Cal Expo-- in Sacramento, and they are part of Governor Gavin Newsom's plan to protect those most vulnerable to the coronavirus.

The city is expected to receive 63 trailers from the state which in turn received them from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg announced during a coronavirus briefing that the public would be able to get a closer look at the trailers beginning Friday, though it wasn't made clear how that would be accomplished with social distancing in mind.

Governor Newsom during that same briefing said the state now has access to approximately 7,000 hotel and motel rooms available to house the homeless with a goal of getting them off the streets. Doing so, said the Governor, will make it less likely that the California medical system will be overwhelmed during the virus outbreak.
