Evicted Squatters To Return To Oakland Home After Developer Agrees To Sell

Several homeless mothers who were evicted last week from a formerly vacant home in Oakland where they were squatting plan to move back after the development company which owns the property agreed to sell the property at to a nonprofit organization. The deal was announced Monday by the city and the group Moms 4 Housing, whose members were the ones removed and arrested by Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

Wedgewood Incorporated went to court to have the women from Moms 4 Housing and their children removed from the home, but the company will now sell the property to the Oakland Community Land Trust, which plans to allow women to return. Wedgewood purchased the home at auction last year for approximately $500,000.

Moms 4 Housing has been protesting home speculation in Oakland, which is struggling with a housing shortage and homelessness crisis.
