PG&E Exec Who Held Customer Party On Eve Of Massive Power Shutoff Is Gone

A Pacific Gas and Electric executive who took the lead on organization of a retreat at which company employees wined and dined top customers on the evening before the utility's massive power outage last week is now unemployed.

Mel Christopher, who was head of the PG&E division, had left the company as of Tuesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Christopher's departure comes days after it was reported that he was among several PG&E gas employees at the retreat with as many as 60 major gas customers just before colleagues in the electric division pulled the plug and plunged into the dark customers in parts of 35 northern California counties to avoid sparking a wildfire with power lines susceptible coming down in high winds which were forecast. The retreat was hosted by the upscale Silver Oak winery in Sonoma County.

The retreat also occurred on second anniversary of the October 2017 North Bay wildfires, most of which were blamed on PG&E. Those fires caused widespread damage in Sonoma County.
