PG&E shuts off power to 500,000 customers early with 300,000 more coming

Millions of people throughout California woke up to no power this morning, as PG&E shut off power to 500,000 customers at Midnight Wednesday.

234,000 customers will lose power starting at noon, due to dry and windy conditions throughout the state, in hopes that it will prevent potential fires, according to the utility.

Winds are expected to reach 35-45 mph in many areas.

It could end up taking as many as five days to restore power after winds die down, as every power line must be checked, to make sure it won't start a fire, or isn't damaged.
