Twitter Won't Tell Devin Nunes Who's Behind Fake 'Cow' And 'Mom' Accounts

Representative Devin Nunes of California suffered a setback Wednesday in the Fresno Republican's defamation lawsuit against the anonymous Twitter users who created accounts with the names Devin Nunes' Cow and Devin Nunes' Mom.

Twitter lawyers reportedly told a Virginia court that they would not disclose the identities of those people, even though the judge had asked that the information be provided in a confidential filing.

"Defending and respecting the user's voice is one of our core values at Twitter," a Twitter spokesperson said, according to a Fresno Bee report.

It's unclear if the judge will accept the Twitter response. He didn't offer comment.

The Fresno Republican is suing the account holders and Republican strategist Liz Mair for what he claims were unified efforts on their parts to defame him just prior to his successful 2018 re-election campaign. However, that election was much closer than expected.

Lawyers for the defendants insist that Nunes has no grounds to sue their clients in Virginia, since they don't live or work in that state. Twitter confirmed that the anonymous account holders are not from Virginia.

This is just one of the lawsuits filed by Nunes that are still moving through the courts. He is also suing Fusion GPS and the liberal group Campaign for Accountability in relation to the so-called "dossier" that became the foundation for an FBI investigation into possible ties between President Donald Trump and the Russian government.

A suit filed by Nunes against Democrat activists who tried to stop him from calling himself a farmer in his campaign has been dropped. Nunes is part of a dairy farming family.
