USS Arizona Survivor Died This Week At Age 98

One of the four remaining USS Arizona Survivors has passed away this week in California. Lauren Bruner had recently celebrated his 98th birthday. At the time of the Pearl Harbor attacks, Bruner was a 21-year-old Fire Controlman 3rd class. He was one of the last people leave the USS Arizona before it sunk after and was one of 334 crew members who was able to escape the ship. Bruner had severe burns on 75% of his body.

Bruner has a memoir titled Second to Last to Leave USS Arizona which details his experience being a crewman during Pearl Harbor. He is survived by his family and his memory will be honored at the Pearl Harbor memorial in Hawaii.
