Sacramento is proposing a year-long pilot project that will bring food delivery robots to midtown and other surrounding communities.
The city is teaming up with Kiwi Campus Inc. in hopes of alleviating traffic congestion. These "Kiwi Bots" will operate similar to other food delivery service apps like DoorDash, UberEats and Postmates. The robots will operate on public sidewalks at the speed of 2 MPH, according to Sacramento City Express.
“Not only do food delivery robots help us keep more cars off the streets, we see potential employment opportunities for disadvantaged communities where unemployment is two to five times higher than the national average,” said City Chief Innovation Officer, Louis Stewart “Kiwi Campus typically hires local workers to map routes, service and maintain the Kiwi bots.”
