Trump Takes Back High-Speed Rail Money From California

The Trump administration is making good on a threat to end the federal funding for California's high-speed rail project.

About $1 billion in federal grant money for the project is being cancelled because of the state has failed to comply with the conditions of the grant and has given up on the goal of a bullet train running between San Francisco and Los Angeles, according to the Federal Railroad Administration.

That money is considered crucial to the project, and state officials had previously said losing federal funds might stop it in its tracks.

Governor Gavin Newsom previously criticized the Trump administration for originally threatening to take back the grant money, but he also said that he is still committed to the completing the full line.
