Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea on Tuesday promised people living downstream from the Oroville Dam that is no public threat from the newly constructed spillways.
The sheriff has released a statement via the department's Twitter account addressing what he called rumors and concerns over the safety of the main spillway and emergency spillway.
Honea said he has visited the spillway, and talked directly to state water officials, engineers, hydrologists and construction designers about the spillway's performance to date. He added that based on all of the information he and others have reviewed, there is no reason to believe there is an imminent threat to public safety.
