State lawmakers are working toward making skyrocketing rents in California more affordable.
A new set of bills is being introduced that would protect renters, fight price gouging, and require landlords to prove just cause before evicting tenants.
Other proposals aim to reform current rent control laws and establish a statewide rent registry.
Assemblyman David Chiu represents San Francisco and says the proposals could save millions of renters from hefty increases while also allowing landlords the ability to make a return on their investments.
