Former Vice President Joe Biden Calls For Trump's Impeachment

Former Vice President Joe Biden has, for the first time, publicly called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

During a campaign stop in Manchester, New Hampshire on Wednesday, Biden delivered a fiery campaign speech in which he said Trump had violated his oath of office.

"Donald Trump has violated his oath of office, betrayed the nation, and committed impeachable acts," Biden said in his strongest comments to date. "To preserve our Constitution, our democracy, our basic integrity, he should be impeached."

Biden said Trump had 'indicted himself' after asking the Ukrainian president to investigate his family over corruption allegations as well as when Trump issued a public call for Ukraine and China to investigate the Bidens last week.

"The United States cannot afford to have a president who will abuse whatever power available to them to get re-elected," Biden said

Last week it was revealed that a second whistleblower with first-hand knowledge of the Ukraine scandal had come forward with new details on the call, with attorneys representing the whistleblowers confirming they are representing "multiple" officials. Last week, the committees leading the impeachment inquiry released text messages sent by diplomats working with Ukrainian officials that showed they believed an offer of military aid and a meeting at the White House was connected with a possible corruption investigation of the Bidens.

Democrats in the House launched impeachment proceedings following revelations from a whistleblower complaint that implicated Trump in attempting to use nearly $400 million in military aid as leverage to pressure Ukraine into investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter for their business ties to that country. The Department of Justice released a summary of the call last week, which contained a record of the two world leaders discussing Biden and military aid for that country.

Trump responded almost immediately to Biden's call for him to be impeached on Twitter, writing that he did nothing wrong in his phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"So pathetic to see Sleepy Joe Biden, who with his son, Hunter, and to the detriment of the American Taxpayer, has ripped off at least two countries for millions of dollars, calling for my impeachment - and I did nothing wrong. Joe’s Failing Campaign gave him no other choice!" Trump wrote Wednesday afternoon.

Biden joins several other 2020 Democratic presidential candidates who have called for Trump's impeachment. Sens. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) all called for Trump's impeachment shortly before Pelosi announced the House was launching an impeachment inquiry.

Biden fired back with a tweet of his own, thanking President Trump for watching his speech in New Hampshire.

"Thanks for watching. Stop stonewalling the Congress. Honor your oath. Respect the Constitution," Biden wrote. "And speaking of taxpayers, I’ve released 21 years of my tax returns. You?"

Trump is the fourth U.S. president to have faced an impeachment inquiry. President Andrew Jackson and President Bill Clinton are the only two presidents who have been impeached. President Richard Nixon resigned from his position before he was impeached by the House in 1974.
