A 46-year-old doctor has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to kill his wife at the Pali Lookout in Oahu, Hawaii. The incident reportedly occurred after Arielle Konig, a 36-year-old nuclear engineer, refused to take a photo with her husband, Gerhardt Konig.
According to police, Konig attacked his wife with closed fists and a rock before attempting to push her off a hiking trail. He also allegedly tried to harm her with two syringes containing an unknown substance. Arielle was hospitalized with severe facial and head injuries and remains in critical condition.
Konig, an anesthesiologist from Maui, was arrested after a brief foot chase near Pali Highway, approximately eight hours after the alleged attack. He has been suspended from his medical duties at Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he worked as an independent contractor. Maui Health has stated its commitment to patient safety and is cooperating with authorities.
The couple, married since 2018, reside in a $1.5 million home in Maui but were visiting Oahu at the time of the incident. Konig has been previously married and has at least one child from a prior relationship. The Pali Lookout was closed for the rest of Monday (March 24) following the incident, and charges against Konig are pending.
