Trump Asks Supreme Court To Block New York From Getting His Tax Returns

US-POLITICS-COURT-NOMINATION

President Donald Trump is asking the Supreme Court to block a subpoena from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, which ordered his tax preparer to hand over eight years of his personal and business tax returns. Prosecutors asked for the documents as part of their ongoing investigation into the Trump Organization and two hush-money payments made to women who allegedly had affairs with Trump.

Trump's lawyers have argued that state authorities cannot investigate a sitting president. Their argument was rejected by a federal judge in Manhattan and the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.

“We have filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to overturn the 2nd Circuit decision regarding a subpoena issued by the New York County District Attorney. The 2nd Circuit decision is wrong and should be reversed," Trump's attorney Jay Sekulow told NBC News. "We are hopeful that the Supreme Court will grant review in this significant constitutional case and reverse the dangerous and damaging decision of the appeals court."
