Texas Deputy Shot With A Crossbow While Responding To Emergency Call

Crossbow

A Texas deputy was shot in the face with a crossbow while responding to an emergency call. Police were called to the home of 38-year-old Taylor Kyle Shackelford by his family because he was acting erratically. They requested help from the mental health department of the Hardin County Sheriff's Department.

When officers arrived on the scene, they collaborated with a crisis worker to try to calm down Shackelford and began speaking to him from outside his home. During their conversation, Shackelford came out armed with a crossbow and shot the officer, who has not been identified, in the face.

The officer drew his service weapon and returned fire, wounding Shackelford. He was airlifted to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Luckily, the officer only sustained a minor injury in the attack and was treated and released from a local hospital.

Shackelford is facing a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer.
